What are the names of the flowers on the cards and website, and why were they chosen?
Both of us are big fans of flowers, both from a biological and an aesthetic perspective ;) Wildflowers capture the vibe of Swedish summers very well, so we went for a bunch of local species:
- flowers in the Campanula family (blåklockssläktet)
- lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis, liljekonvalj)
- maiden pink (Dianthus deltoides, backnejlika)
- forget-me-nots (Myosotis, förgätmigejsläktet)
- geraniums (Geranium, nävesläktet)
- European blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus, blåbär)
- coltsfoot (Tussilago, hästhov), and
- cowslip (Primula veris, gullviva)
We also wanted to represent each side of our families. The daisy (Bellis perennis, tusensköna) is the national flower of the Netherlands, where Michelle's father is from. The impala lily (Adenium multiflorum, stjärnökenros) is the national flower of Ghana, where Michelle's mother is from. The harebell (Campanula rotundifolia, blåklocka) is both Sweden's national flower and the regional flower of Dalarna, where Anders' father is from. The European stag beetle (Lucanus cervus, ekoxe) on the back is the regional insect of Blekinge, where Anders' mother is from. The Swedish name literally means "oak ox", so we thought it'd be fun to throw in some oak leaves as well.
